ProLago - Lake Atitlan Environmental
Protection Society http://prolagoatitlan.org
a local nonprofit legally established in 2002,
PROLAGO is most interested in protecting the lake basin environment
to sustain the benefits it provides to local indigenous people.
PROLAGO’s members are lake neighbors, mostly professionals,
with a long term concern for the interrelationship between the health
of the lake and the quality of life of the indigenous people. The
main purpose of PROLAGO is to sustain the benefits provided by Lake
Atitlán to Guatemalan society, especially to the quality
of life of indigenous communities in the lake basin.

provides free medical clinics to the indigenous people in the lake
Atitlan region of Guatemala with the help of volunteers from around
the world.

| The
Dr Louis & Victoria de Peña Foundation http://www.doctorlouis.org/
An emergency fund has been established to help build an emergency
medical clinic in Santa Catarina Palopo, which will assist with
the critical health care needs of the people in the area. Additionally,
donations will be utilized to purchase pure water, food and emergency
supplies. The water system in the town of Santa Catarina Palopo
was partially destroyed, so a source for clean water is a top priority.

The
Guatemala Emergency Relief Fund http://rph.chaosnet.org/gfund/
is making an active contribution to ongoing humanitarian efforts
addressing the substantial loss of life, property, and livelihood
in Guatemala caused by hurricane Stan in early October. *
We are implementing modest clean up and reconstruction projects
over the short- and medium-term. We are particularly concerned with
families who have been bypassed by other aid organizations--so as
to make a direct contribution to the livelihood of Catarinecos affected
by hurricane Stan.
* We are developing connections between individuals and organizations
working to implement aid work so as to make the aid process more
efficient.
* We are looking into longer-term possibilities for relocating families
who, because they are among the poorest Catarinecos, live dangerous
proximity to the rivers.
